I recently was talking to Chris about an interesting idea. As many of you might've noticed, most of the audioprofiles are downcoded when uploaded in stereo. This was pointed out to me to "save space on the server". However, an idea that I put forward to Chris would be is:
To get more attraction to the premium memberships, it would be possible to upload a stereo audio profile as a premium and not have it downcoded. Or, only have it slightly downcoded but not as drasticly as the normal membership. Chris pointed out to me that this would be an issue for dialup users on the zone. I however also pointed out to him that on the profile pages there is an indication that if someone is a premium member or not. And so, this would warn dialup users that they have a long wait ahead of them.
So, I would like to get some feedback on this and see what you zoners think.

Very good idea.

I'd half to agree with you. I'm not an audio geek, but from what I've heard sterio profiles sound hella-nice. You could give like a little box that'd pop and say, 'for dialup users and others on slow connections, you may have (insert estimate of minutes in here), please wait.
I don't know how this could be done or anything, just a thought...

the dial up users wouldn't have to wait all that long.

As I said, since it is upcoded and also they get 2 minutes, they would have to wait a certain amount of time.

urm...who cares?

yeah, they'd probably have to wait about 2 mins or so, but it wouldn't be like hella long. I mean, for non-premiums, it's only like 20 seconds, and for premiums it's only like 2 mins. If they save it as .mp3 regardless, it'll only take them 1-2 minutes, 4 or 5 on a really slow day to upload them.

Yer, so it will still be a tiny bit slow but by much. And that is why I reckon it is a rather good idea to be included in the premium account. Most people might not care, but some do.

yeah i think that's a grand idea. i wish they could introduce a payment system on the site, instead of going through pay pal, as i don't have a pay pal account, it's rather anoying.

hmm get a paypal account-- it is free and accessible... Tired of hearing people complain about that.. Secondly, as for stereo profiles, waste of bandwidth and server space. Who cares what these people on here sound like? I believe it is stupid and not very economical. J makes more money without it.

Moot point, bgdawg. The Zone's on a dedicated machine, in case you haven't noticed. This feature, by the way, might be the maker/braker for many premium memberships, myself included.
